Zurich to Lucerne in an hour, and back whenever.
Lucerne is close enough to Zurich to be a morning out and far enough that the logistics matter. It is the shortest of our regular runs, under an hour on a good day, which makes it the one most often booked as a day trip with the car waiting rather than a one-way transfer.

The journey
It is a straightforward motorway drive: south from the airport on the A4 through Zug, then the A14 down to Lucerne. About 60 km, and typically around fifty minutes.
The exception is the commuter peak and summer weekends, when the Zug stretch backs up. If your booking falls in one of those windows we will build the extra time into the plan rather than into your morning.
A day trip rather than a transfer
Most Lucerne bookings are not one-way. The pattern is a morning pickup in Zurich, a few hours in Lucerne (the Chapel Bridge, the old town, a lake cruise, the cable car up Pilatus or the cog railway up the Rigi), and a drive back in the afternoon.
Booked as a day, you keep the same car and driver throughout and the luggage or shopping stays in the vehicle. Tell us roughly how long you want and we will quote for the whole thing.
Where we drop you
The city centre is compact and much of it is pedestrianised, so the useful drop points are around the edge of the old town.

Arriving from the airport
A Lucerne transfer from arrivals is short enough to be painless and long enough to be worth not doing with luggage on a train. Send the flight number, we meet you in the hall, and you are at your hotel inside an hour of clearing customs.
The same run in reverse is a comfortable early-morning departure. Even a first-wave flight only means leaving Lucerne at a civilised hour.
Extending the day
Lucerne pairs naturally with the rest of central Switzerland, and a day trip can easily take in more than the city: the lake road to Vitznau, the Rigi, or on towards Engelberg.

How long does it take to drive from Zurich to Lucerne?
About fifty minutes from Zurich Airport in clear conditions, for around 60 km. Commuter peaks and summer weekends can add fifteen or twenty minutes, which we plan for.
Can you wait while we look around Lucerne?
Yes, and it is the most common way this trip is booked. Tell us roughly how many hours you want and we will quote for the day rather than for each leg.
Can you take us to the Pilatus or Rigi cable cars?
Yes. Kriens for Pilatus, and the lake road to Weggis or Vitznau for the Rigi. Both are easy additions to a Lucerne day.
Do you collect from Zurich Airport for Lucerne?
Yes. Send your flight number and we will meet you in arrivals and drive you straight to your hotel.
Is a private car better than the train to Lucerne?
Honestly, not always. The direct train is fast and pleasant if you are travelling light. A car wins when you have luggage, a group, small children, or a day of stops the train does not reach.
